Personal Reformulation

A Personal Reformulation (PR) is a form of personal and professional development based on Cognitive Analytic Therapy. It is not therapy as such, but aims to give you useful insight into the psychology of workplace relationships.

Drawing on the relational approach of Cognitive Analytic Therapy, a Personal Reformulation aims to identify and explore relational patterns that develop in working environments. The focus is negotiated collaboratively with you but develops from exploring your professional role and the organisation in which you work. The central aim is to:

  • Improve your experience of work relationships.

  • Help adjust to changes or promotions at work.

  • Help nurture your relational awareness in the working environment.

  • Develop a diagrammatic reformulation of the relational patterns that are described in the session.

Personal Reformulations are usual done over a three hour period, this could be an extended two hour session with one hour follow up or three one hour sessions.

(The emphasis on professional roles and organisational dynamics helps to provide focus and containment in the process, however discussing relational patterns can naturally overlap with more personal ground. If this occurs we will be thoughtful about what can be safely explored within the time limits of the sessions and may decide to return to any other themes that arise.)
